Warnmeldung beim Schreiben von PlotMaker-Dateien auf den Novell-Server

Manchmal kommt es unter ganz bestimmten Konstellation vor, dass eine Warnmeldung erscheint, wenn PlotMaker-Dateien über das Netz auf einen Novell-Server geschrieben werden.
Ursache sind hier Inkompatibilitäten der Netzwerkkomponenten mit langen Dateinamen.

PRIMARY RECOMMENDATIONS

1: Make sure all affected PCs are running Microsoft Windows v95B (OS/R2) or later, and that the OLE files are up to date and matched. Check the Microsoft Web site for details.
2: Replace the Microsoft NetWare client with the Novell 32-bit Client for Win95 version 2.5. This is available free from Novell's Web site as a compressed file called W9525E.EXE (approx. 11Mb). Extract it to a temp directory and run SETUP.EXE - after precautionary noting of the model and settings of the LAN card for each PC. If 32-bit NIC drivers do not work, choose 16-bit drivers instead. In the unlikely event this process fails, reinstall the Microsoft client until the cause of the problem is resolved.
3: Log all users off the NetWare LAN. At the file server System Console screen, type LOAD LONG. If LONG.NAM is not found, type LOAD OS2 instead. Then type ADD NAME SPACE LONG (or OS2) TO VOLUME SYS. Repeat this for other Volumes if any (eg CAD, VOL2 etc.) When the name space has finished installing, users may log in again.
4: Add a line LOAD OS2 (or LONG) to the server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file - near the end.

SECONDARY RECOMMENDATIONS

1: Upgrade NetWare to v4.11 and then install Service Pack 5. Run V_LONG on the Volume(s) as recommended by Novell. They will then have a much faster and Y2k compliant NOS... We would always strongly recommend replacement of the file server as part of this upgrade.
2: Regularly ensure that the NOS patched to the latest level. Also upgrade the workstation client software. Suggested minimum frequency for these procedures is twice a year. This will prevent a lot of potential issues from even arising.
